The Act of Contrition is an essential Catholic prayer all Catholics want to know. “Contrition” comes from the Latin contristare, “to be with sadness.” We’re used to praying it during Confession, usually right before the priest says, “I absolve you from your sins, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.”  But it’s also especially appropriate to pray before going to sleep.
